New Life Members 2024
Two nominations for Life Membership were approved at the club’s AGM in May 2024. The new life members are John Higgins and Alan Willocks.
Pam McColl as club chairperson presented a summary of their achievements to members.
John Higgins has been a member at the club for 20 years joining in 2004. In the early days John was on the RVBA Section Committee for 5 years. He then continued on as a Board member for three years during which time he was the Membership Director and Functions Director. He initiated a Get on the Green program in 2005/6 which was responsible for introduction to bowls of many of our current members. He continues his participation broader roles in marketing, fund raising and advertising. He has contributed to the running of the club as a club coach for 17 years and a Saturday selector for 3 years. He is the coordinator for Tuesday Night pennant where he encourages participation of new bowlers to the game. John is an active member in a quiet way. He is a tireless contributor to our Club and I am pleased to announce his life membership.
Alan Willocks joined the club January 2006 after participating in a club Get on the Green program. He has a had long involvement in the club management. Initially he was an RVBA board member in 2009-11 where he initiated the engagement of external coaches for skill development. He then joined the club Board of Management under its new structure in 2011. He served as Bowls Director for six year from 2011 and then 4 years as Membership Director from 2018. During this period he was a Saturday selector for six years and occasionally chair of selectors. He has been involved in the management of the website since 2011 and more recently in the management of TeamApp for the club. He is an active contributor to social bowls and has been organising the Mondays Pairs for the past three years. Alan continues to be an active member and is a tireless contributor to our Club. I am pleased to announce his life membership.
